Carlos Guevara, RYT, graduated
from Cornell University with a BA in Romance & Classical Studies, heavy training in the sciences,
a head full of philosophy, and an unofficial minor/passion in Asian
Studies. Early in 1997, he introduced Yoga into his life as an alternative
to back and neck surgery to ease the chronic pain caused by a childhood
injury. The culmination of his search for an antidote to questionable
medical procedures propelled him into intense yogic self-study for
a stretch of 8-hour days lasting 6 months. Abandoning his pain killers
and diligently following the principals of B.K.S. Iyengar--as presented
in his book “Light On Yoga”--Carlos quickly found relief
from depression and decades of pain. After this intense self-immersion,
he took his first Yoga class with Mary Dunn, who encouraged him to
continue his journey by sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm with
other people. Since that time, his studies have introduced him to
varied branches of yoga, including Ashtanga/Vinyasa, Iyengar, Sivananda,
Kundalini, Jivamukti, Bikram and Anusara. His yoga and meditation
practice experienced an added perspective through Zen Buddhism and
Rinzai training at The Zen Studies Society (Dai Bosatsu Zendo Shobo-ji)
in New York City, under the guidance of Abbot Eido T. Shimano Roshi.
In 2003, Carlos completed his yoga teacher certification at OM Yoga
and has been teaching in the Tri-State area since that time. As a
former student of ballet and current instructor of Tai Chi and Qi
Gong, he borrows from these disciplines and their kinesiology to
imbue his Iyengar/Ashtanga/ Vinyasa teaching style with a mindful
approach to motion, breathing and alignment.
Carlos firmly believes that
yoga, education and artistic expression are important vehicles
to ride and explore along the path of self-development. He loves
to help his students CREATE themselves through yoga and encourages
everyone to engage their inner warrior for a life-long journey
of health, vitality and discovery. Current thought: “Dismiss
prejudice and expectation: create a ripple in your life.”
Join Carlos every Sunday at 10am and discover YOURSELF thru his
shared creativity.
Starseed/Rutherford is happy to welcome him and his creativity to
our family of yogis. |
